All applicants must hold adequate health insurance during their stay in Australia, this can either be;
- A private health insurance policy; or
- Medicare, if eligible to enrol under the Reciprocal Health Care Arrangements (RHCA).
Insurance must cover the primary applicant and any family members included in the application.
RHCA (Reciprocal Health Care Arrangements)
The Australian government have RHCA with certain countries;
Condition 8501 requires 457 visa holders to maintain their health insurance for the duration of the visa, cancelling the insurance after obtaining the 457 visa may result in a cancellation of their visa.
Overseas student health cover (OSHC) cannot be used for a 457 visa, the applicant would need to upgrade their policy to meet the requirements.
