Changes to English Language Requirements for the Skills in Demand (subclass 482 visa)

As of 13 September 2025, the Department of Home Affairs have updated the English language test requirements for the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa.

These changes include:

  • Consistent scoring across all test providers
  • More flexibility and test options for visa applicants
  • The addition of 3 new tests to be available to visa applicants to meet the SID English requirements

Testing authorities and their scores have been outlined below:

Key Notes

  • No changes have been made to language testing exemptions for the SID 482 visa
  • The department will no longer accept Cambridge C1 Advanced tests taken on or after 13 September 2025
  • Tests completed before 13 September 2025 will continue to hold a three-year validity period for SID visa purposes. These tests will be accepted provided they meet the validity and score requirements set out in the Migration (Language Test Requirements for Subclass 482 Visa) Instrument 2024.
